Italian Entrepreneur Steven Basalari (@stevenbasalari) always looks both ways for success.
He’s the son of a prominent nightclub owner from Italy, and his family has always been supportive and encouraging of his career. From a young age his family encouraged him to help run the family business and use their existing assets to advance the social status of the family name.
Basalari started running one of his fathers clubs at the young age of 20, and opened a few of his own shortly after.
Basalari enjoys the nightlife business, but he says that after meeting international celebrities and music artists he wanted to start a business that allowed him to travel more. Balasari finally started his first e-commerce business.
E-commerce appealed to him for many reasons. First, it allowed him to travel the world working on his laptop. E-commerce is a business that exists completely online, so he’s not tied down to one country. Second, anyone can start an e-commerce business with minimal capital. Balasari says, using a dropshipping model, he doesn’t even pay for inventory until the customer has purchased the product, where he ships it directly to the customer from the factory.
Basalari says he now owns one of the highest performing e-commerce brands in all of Italy. He’s made more than $500,000 dollars in a single month with e-commerce. Balasari has experienced so much success with e-commerce, he wants to share the wealth. He sees e-commerce as a business that anyone can get started with, so he created his course, Drop Evolution, where aspiring entrepreneurs can learn how to get rolling with dropshipping.
“it’s important for them to learn about the business model but also marketing as a whole,” says Basalari. “When it comes down to marketing an e-commerce product, it’s all about finding a niche that you are interested in.”
Basalari says it’s important to understand the target audience; what they’re interested in; and what they’re afraid of. Once the seller understands the niche like the back of their hand, it’s easier to create marketing material that catches their eye and gets them to buy into the product. Basalari recommends studying the top brands in a niche to understand what they do to set themselves apart from the competition.
Basalari says that he was inspired by brands like Nike, Gucci, Adidas when creating his brand. He says that he studies their ads, their emails, their commercials and even the way their websites are structured.
“There is no substitute for hard work,” he says. “People need to be willing to put in the effort to do their market research and study their competitors if they actually want to be successful in business.”
Basalari’s advice for beginners is to work on understanding their niche before they even decide what product they are going to sell.
“Once they understand their niche extremely well, they can figure out the products their audiences actually want, and not the products they just think they want,” says Basalari.
