Amazon Pantry expands to 110 Indian Cities

Amazon, the E-commerce behemoth said that it has been expanding its “Pantry services” to many Indian Cities. It targets 110 cities to grow big on the Pantry side of its business.

The E commerce website’s Pantry is ruthlessly expanding to many cities, including smaller cities as well. The Amazon Pantry was available in 40 cities in 2018.

Saurabh Srivastaava, The Amazon India Director Category management said – “Consumables is a fast growing category for Amazon.in. Amazon Pantry has become popular with customers. We have now added more than 70 cities and towns in the last six-seven months to take the total number of cities covered by Amazon Pantry to 110.”

Amazon Pantry provides 5000 products from over 500 brands to customers. It caters with many categories like staples, house supplies, personal supplies, personal care and others.

The great thing about Amazon Pantry in India is that it available in cities like Belgaum in Karnataka, and Kaithal in Haryana. And in big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune the customers are allowed to schedule their orders, and customize the time slots in which they wish to receive the order.

Indians are becoming comfortable in buying even bread and milk online which has motivated Amazon Pantry to invest $500 million in this business. The grocery segment is all set to show a strong growth in the e-market.

In India, Grofers and BigBasket are other e-grocery markets which are also making their presence know. BigBasket raised about $150 million and Grofers about $200 million last month.

The next few years are important for this e-grocery markets in India. It will decide how comfortable customers are in buying grocery online. The grocery segment accounts for a significant portion of the unorganised retail segment in the country. The market is projected to witness a steady growth over the next few years in India.

After its temporary shut down in February, Amazon Pantry is looking forward to make its presence known in the e-grocery market. The pantry service does not provide fresh vegetables and fruits like BigBasket but only packaged food and household supplies.
