Licon Dairy Embraces Innovations and has Future Plans to Serve its Current and New Customers Effectively

Licon Dairy is in the business world for more than 65 years and it embraces innovations with time to serve its customers effectively. The family-operated business located in San Elizario, Texas, has a long story to reach the point where it is today.

In the Mid 1950s, Soltero and Isabel Martinez started making Asaderos in their Ysleta home to sell it door by door. In 1965, Licon Dairy came into existence in San Elizario with the hard work of Eugenio Licon Sr. and Maria Martinez (daughter of Soltero & Isabel Martinez).

Eugenio replaced “s” in the Asaderos cheese with “z” to rename it Azaderos. Soon, he started milking and processing his 10 cows and the number reached 125 due to increasing demand. Eugenio Licon Sr. created the petting zoo with a pair of Ostrich in 1995 and it saw its expansion with the addition of more exotic animals.

In 2004, Eugenio Licon Sr. and Sandra E. Licon acquired the company and built a new cheese plant. Over the next decade, they started selling cheese products from their stores. The year 2019 saw the opening of The Outlaw Saloon & Grill by Angel Licon.

It is a western dining experience that serves an American menu with a collection of Azaderos products. The pandemic made Licon Dairy shut for some time and it recently reopened with a great response from its customers.

Licon Dairy experiments with new things using innovations to introduce new products and new local vendors. It has also included live music entertainment and new events with the support of its customers.

Recently, it organized a major event on June 27th, which saw performances by Nashville recording artist Eli Mosley on its new stage. Besides, Licon Dairy has also rebuilt about 75% of its petting zoo, encompassing new enclosures, new cheese products, and new animals.

The motive behind all this is to continue the legacy for the decades to come. Licon Dairy owners express their gratitude for the love and support of El Paso city’s local community.
