Cannabis infused beverages, particularly the CBD variety, are set to revolutionize the cannabis industry and companies like West Coast Ventures Corp. (OTC: WCVC) are leading the way
Those who have been following the news since the beginning of the summer know that the Legault government wants to ban consumable products made from cannabis in the near future. This does not prevent several major beer brewers such as Molson-Coors and Constellation Brands from working on the design of THC- and CBD-infused beverages.
In America companies like West Coast Ventures Corp. (OTC: WCVC) are already taking advantage of the positive environment created by the Farm Bill. The company currently sells Illegal Brands CBD sachets and sugar-free Illegal Brands CBD water at all of their flagship Illegal Burger and Illegal Pizza locations. They are also selling CBD products on their Illegal Brands website.
Cannabis drinks are scheduled for December in Canada, and according to a recent survey by consulting firm Deloitte, 37% of Canadians intend to try them (study done on 2000 people). That’s why “alcohol giants like Molson-Coors and Constellation Brands (the manufacturer of Corona)”, based themselves to invest “billions of dollars in the weed industry in order to be ready for this new competitor,” says Le Journal de Montréal.
There are already potted drinks in the United States, such as Hifi-Hops from Lagunitas, California, which are THC-infused waters. We learn from Le Journal de Montréal that “obviously, we want to convert people from alcohol to cannabis.” Cannabis drinks do not cause wakefulness, interact less with drugs and have less sugar and calories than beer. We want to give people a chance to discover that they prefer cannabis to alcohol,” he tells them.
The sector is explored by various alcoholic beverage and cannabis companies, carefully, since this is a field with enormous potential. THC-infused beverages put the alcoholic beverage industry at risk, which is why companies such as Molson-Coors, have set out to find THE winning recipe. Finding the right flavour, finding the right buzz, that’s the real challenge.
Companies that are slowly starting to set up their production aim to reach the uninitiated in the potty world. The beverages in question would, in their view, be a good way to try the effects of THC other than by inhalation, for example.
Social drinks are already part of people’s daily lives, who enjoy them after work, at weekend BBQs at home or at the cottage, so it would make sense to see THC-infused drinks enter the market faster than the weed did.
Basically, we know that it is coming, but we have no idea how it will turn out and, above all, how the Government of Quebec will let it pass in order to compete with other areas that have more CBD and THC friendly legislation.
