Do-It-Yourself Weddings have gained a lot of prestige over the last couple of years. But there are still plenty that prefers the experience that a professional wedding planner can share with them, making the choice between the two quite the heated debate.
Which side of the fence are you on? Is it worth hiring a wedding planner for your wedding?
Answer these questions for yourself with the explanation given below by expert wedding planner, Imtazur Rahman:
Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Wedding Planning
“The idea of a DIY wedding is quite romantic. They always turn out to be intimate though, usually no more than a hundred guests. With a meaningful venue chosen for the memories it can bring rather than the grandness of it. It may be a little imperfect, a little rough around the edges. But for some people? That’s exactly the kind of wedding that they want. Something that is wholly and entirely their own.” – Imtazur Rahman
According to Imtazur Rahman, who was kind enough to provide us the insights that allowed us to write this article: “Some people think that doing the wedding planning yourself means that you have more control over the wedding. But that’s not really the magic of it. With a wedding planner, you still have full control over your wedding. So, the ‘magic’ in DIY-wedding is in the full experience. It’s in working through all those stressful days and coming out on top.”
This, Imtazur explained, is not for everyone. But if you think it might be for you — have a peek at the next section, again, brought to us by Imtazur Rahman, who was kind enough to give us a list of all the different questions that he asks potential clients when they’re trying to figure out whether a DIY wedding or a wedding planner is better for them:
Should You Plan Your Own Wedding?
Imtazur Rahman: If you’d like to plan your own wedding but you’re unsure about whether you can pull it off OR if you’re just generally unsure about whether a DIY wedding is what you want. I’d like you to answer some questions for me. Answer them as honestly as you can, please. It should help you get things straight once and for all.
Do you have someone that can help you plan your wedding?
Imtazur Rahman: “Although DIY weddings, based on the name, imply that you ‘do everything by yourself’, in practice, there is usually still someone helping the bride to make sure that things fall into their place. After all, the last thing that a bride wants to do right before walking down the aisle is stress over logistics.
In any case, if you have a support system that can be there to help you plan your wedding, then that’s one point towards DIY-ing your own wedding. If not, then the next option, if you’re still adamant about planning your own wedding, is maybe hiring a month-of or day-of wedding coordinator that can take care of matters while you’re busy with the actual getting married part!”
Can you spare any time in between your work and your personal life to plan your own wedding?
Imtazur Rahman: “Time, as they say, is money. For some of my clients, having me on board is necessary because they have busy schedules. Not just with work, but their everyday lives as well. Even the most intimate of weddings involve a lot of ‘moving parts’ and to make sure all those parts are working together by the day of, a lot of time invested is necessary.
So, before anything else. Think about how much time you’ll have to plan your wedding in the intervening days (with or without help). If you think you’ll be short on time, or just plain don’t have time, then the choice towards hiring a wedding planner should be clear.”
What’s your working budget?
Imtazur Rahman: “When it comes to maintaining a budget, hiring a wedding planner is a bit of a give-and-take. We spare you time, thus allowing you to earn more with your work. We also have connections with vendors and venue-owners, which are perfect for getting you the best type of deals in your area. So, in some sense, wedding planners are good on the expenses. But only if your budget can handle the fees required for your chosen wedding planner package plan.
Really think about this! And, if you want someone to throw some numbers down with you. Call me, or your wedding planner of choice, they’ll be able to tell you exactly how much their packages cost and, of course, how much money they can save you.”
What kind of wedding are you planning?
Imtazur Rahman: “Depending on how you answer this question — and you can answer this an endless number of ways, I know that personally — having a wedding planner on your side may be exactly the boon that you need. Again, don’t hesitate to call your potential wedding planner if you’re unsure. Even before the contracts are signed, they will be more than happy to tell you just how exactly they can help you pull off the wedding of your dreams.”
