Dr. Mohammad Waizani has cared for dental patients in Lebanon for years, offering an array of services to fit his patients’ many different needs. One of his most sought after treatments, Dr. Waizani’s natural veneer procedure employs a unique microscopal approach to achieve a more precise, less invasive installation.
Dental veneers come in many different forms. Dr. Waizani’s natural veneers make use of porcelain molds for more natural looking and natural feeling teeth. Porcelain contains particles particularly similar to those found in organic human teeth, allowing light to pass through in a similar manner. Where alternative veneer materials reflect light, porcelain’s translucent quality allows for artificial veneers that are virtually indistinguishable from normal tooth enamel, in addition to being more resistant to staining and chipping.
Patients opt veneers for a multitude of reasons. As a primarily cosmetic treatment, many choose to install veneers in order to whiten their smile, cementing their teeth with a white color that closely matches the undertones in patients’ skin, lips, and eyes. The ultimate goal of the procedure is for patients to leave the clinic with a beautiful, natural smile. Natural here doesn’t necessarily mean symmetrical, and this point serves an important function in Dr. Waizani’s method. He takes a close look at his patients oral and facial features, creating uniquely fitted and colored veneers that function, look, and feel like natural teeth with an enhanced cosmetic appearance. As Dr. Waizani puts it “A veneer isn’t only about the mouth, we work from the outside of the face in”, and in doing so create a unique finished look perfectly tailored to the distinct features of each patient.
Dentists have long made use of microscopes in the profession, usually for root canal treatments and other surgeries. Their application in veneer installation, however, is far less common. By employing microscopes in the procedure, Dr. Waizani succeeds in reducing the amount of surface enamel typically removed in the installation process. Situating a veneer on top of a tooth requires effacing a small layer of enamel. In a typical procedure, this layer could measure between 0.8 and 1.5 millimeters. Through a unique microscopal approach, however, Dr. Waizani reduces this figure to a mere 0.2 to 0.3 millimetres, keeping teeth stronger and healthier, while simultaneously ensuring the veneers themselves last longer. Essentially, less removed enamel equates to less damage and therefore better looking teeth. By protecting the integrity of the root, which supplies teeth with the nutrients they need, giving them vitality and sensation, Dr. Waizani can safeguard the health of the teeth and gums, making them less likely to change in color or deteriorate.
Teeth function similarly to all organs in the human body and, like most, age and become weaker with time. Dr. Waizani’s natural veneers comprise an opportunity to restore youth and vitality to a smile, especially in cases where unhealthy habits like grinding have worked to weaken a patient’s real enamel over long periods of time. Like a normal tooth, veneers, when properly cared for and maintained, do not come with an expiry date. As long as one cares for them in the same way they would attend to their natural teeth, veneers present a viable long term cosmetic solution to improve the appearance of one’s smile, while maintaining a healthy, natural aesthetic.
