While many may think this is something from futuristic video games or movies, it’s not. It’s actually a reality, thanks to an innovative and award winning Dutch company.
This Dutch company is called Lightyear and they are producing what is without doubts the world’s first ever solar powered vehicle.
According to them, they crafted the Lightyear One car to do a lot more than just appeal to eyes of people.
They crafted it to look very pretty while also engineered to really improve safety and efficiency, all at the same time. In their words, they “took nothing for granted” in reevaluating every single component of Lightyear One.
As the first ever car they have built, this innovative startup company is building Lightyear One from the ground up. They have grand plans to have it perform well while also covering a lot of distance.
The Lightyear One’s roof and hood is built to comprise five square meters of what they call “integrated solar cells”. These integrated solar cells are within safety glass and so strong that they claim a fully grown adult can confidently walk on them without causing issues or even dents.
The most interesting and innovative aspect of this futuristic vehicle is how it charges itself when in use.
Owners will also be able to easily charge this car from just about any charging outlet very quickly.
With their fast charging technology, they claim owners can charge as many as 570km energy worth in just an hour using a normal 230V outlet. As for overnight, they even claim one can charge as many as 350km energy worth, overnight, also using any normal 230V outlet.
Lightyear was founded by the same group of ambitious members who won the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, the prestigious competition for the best solar-powered cars.
When finished they expect Lightyear One to cost as much as €119,000 (which is about $127,000).
While a lot more expensive than normal cars, it promises to be worth it when you consider how much owners will save thanks to its solar powered and normal charging features.
