Larissa Chaoul is a lifelong artist and creator. A comic aficionado from a young age, Chaoul found early expression through comic-like renderings of figures and forms. Her art reflects her approach to life, namely in her resistance to seriousness, instead electing for a light, playful approach. Consequently, Chaoul creates whimsical, diverse pieces, rupturing with bold colors, dynamic movement, and eccentric figures. Through abstraction, distortion, and diverse visual elements that twist and meld into one another, her work often assumes the form of intricate visual tapestries, weaving together the various component details of a piece into a coherent, yet profoundly eclectic experience.
Chaoul has also received recognition for her much anticipated NFT collection. NFTs, a growing trend in the world of digital art, represent a milestone in the evolution of art collection and creation. NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) utilize block chain technology to attach a totally unique, non-replicable digital identity to artworks. These can be used to certify the authenticity and ownership of a specific piece, essentially opening space for the purchase, sale, and collection of digital ‘originals’. We had the privilege of speaking with Chaoul to ask her about her upcoming collection and what this project means for the development of her artistic voice.
What inspired you to get into the NFT world?
I am not actually getting to the NFT world, I am actually passionate about being closer to the people that hold my art. NFTs guarantee that my art is authentic, and owners have proof that this art is owned by the holders forever. This is a forever link with my fans and owners of my art.
You have a unique style in your NFTs, something we haven’t seen before. How did you come up with the idea of interchangeable designs?
I do not like to see it as unique; I see it as a manifestation of my view of the world. I see things as fun, creative and not that serious. I look at people and am always very curious about human behavior. This is what shows in my art.
What is the launch date of your NFT collection? How much is the starting price going to be?
These are questions I don’t really focus on. The price will depend on making sure the holders have a value that increases, and time relies on my amazing team and management who are looking for the best timing to launch. One thing I can tell you, it will be very soon.
Are you working with any agent? Who is representing you?
I work with my partner Rami Alame, a serial entrepreneur and amazing people around me supporting and believing in this journey. I want to try to get my view of the world out there as simple as that.
What message would you like to spread with your art?
In a few words, Life is not that serious, very fascinating, magical, and whimsical.
What is the dream with your NFTs? What is a milestone you hope to achieve?
My dream is in my present. I am enjoying the journey and making sure I can give back as much love, colors and hope to the world.
What are your plans for 2022?
Many exhibitions ahead and exciting collaborations with Art experts and artists in many vibrant cities. Looking forward to events in Doha, Paris and New York in the foreseeable future and then will let things flow.
In April, Chaoul presented her work at World Art Dubai, an annual event where attendees to the art fair enjoy the opportunity to meet and speak with the various artists featured in the exhibitions they tour. We look forward to her forthcoming NFT collection with anticipation!
