Dr. Ketam Hamdan has successfully carved a niche for herself as a renowned therapist, brain health expert, and mental health influencer. With her unique approach to integrating neuroscience and psychology she has helped hundreds of lives transform into higher versions of themselves. In an interview with the acclaimed psychologist, Dr. Hamdan opens up about her journey to become a successful impact woman.
Dr. Hamdan is a true visionary helping her clients heal and learn to live a more fulfilling life. She helps them learn about themselves, such as Where are emotions in the brain or body? How does the brain automatically react to things based on unconscious triggers? What trauma or unresolved wounds are hampering their path to success or from getting the relationship they desperately want? Most of her clients fall under the category of seemingly successful professionals who have blindspots and face challenges in relationships and living happy. She helps educate them and uses brain science to show them what is happening inside their brain and body to guide them through healing.
Her passion for helping professionals and leaders in the various fields began in Dubai when she started training leaders at the Young Presidents Organization in transformation development. Her exposure to the wealthy and elite led her to depict the emptiness that seeped deep into their lives; any material successes did not compensate for that. Dr. Hamdan’s personal challenges with traditional therapy to heal her own trauma and unresolved issues inspired her to learn about brain science and the autonomic nervous system that controls many people’s lives unconsciously. She spent the past two decades learning at the best universities in the world, such as Harvard University, and from leading scientists and thought leaders.
She says, “I felt that I left my soul at the door, and the work felt empty. An ivy league degree, a corner office, six figures to most seemed that I made it, but, I was not happy or fulfilled for me. Life felt empty.”
Her road to recovery and self-discovery consisted of integrating leadership skills, psychology, spirituality, and neuroscience to heal herself. “I realized I was not broken. I was just learning to come back home to my soul to a more fulfilled life that was aligned with a higher purpose. We all have a purpose. Our trauma, which is basically our distressing life events that we all have, gets in the way of living an authentic and more fulfilling, happy life. Nobody teaches us how our brain and nervous system works. We live life asleep because our unconscious (dictated by our childhood) is running 80% of our life and we are only consciously in control of our life about 20%.”
Once she understood the unconscious process and more about her body and brain connection, she wanted to share her knowledge and demystify the process for everyone else. Citing her purpose in life, she says, “Not everyone will get a chance to go to Columbia University or Harvard or have the financial means to pay leading thought leaders to train or guide them, and they shouldn’t need to in order to grow and heal their internal issues. So I made it my life’s work to help others and demystify this personal development and transformation process.”
