Taiwan’s Innovative technology is Making it a Leader in Hosiery Manufacturing

90% of the stockings manufactured in the market come from Shetou. It is a quaint village in Changhua, Central Taiwan. And it has been in business since the second world war. As of now, 200 factories work in Shetou.

It isn’t just regular cotton socks that the village deals with. But it manufactures high end designer wear as well. There are many large factories that produce pantyhose and fishnet tights for international designer brands such as Chanel and Victoria Secret.

Taiwanese manufacturers devoted their time and money to develop an easy way to produce garments. And with their research they introduced electronic warp knitting machines. These machines are different from the old machines because they can produce a row of stockings at the same time. Other than that, these machines can create a variety of styles of stockings.

Highly innovative machines like these can drill special holes in silk stockings for passing ribbons through it. It can also add colored lace, or a combination of net and silk stockings.

Various styles produced by the machines are flexible and comfortable to wear because of the one-piece molding. The diverse technologies also attract many international brand OEM and ODM orders. MIT, (Made in Taiwan), is a big name in the hosiery industry, it continues to invest in development of various ways to improve production. It works on stocking technology to seamless sports underwear, and leggings.

With the help of technology like double-needle electronic warp knitting machines, and the application of various Jacquard technologies, unique weave patterns are designed. You can also produce environmentally friendly bags through the technology.

Taiwan’s hosiery industry is a step ahead and is using 3D high tech printing to create colorful and customized designs. Ukiyo-e, the Alishan Small Train, Sun Moon Lake, the Taiwan black bear and other prints are the favorites of international buyers, and Taiwanese manufacturers are producing bulk of these products.

The manufacturers are also using S.Cafe Yarns in the knitting. These yarns are unique because they combine coffee grounds with the yarn surface. Thus, changing the characteristics of the decorations, and decreasing drying times. Which is 200% faster compared to cotton.
