When is the right time to quit your nine to five job?

When we are going through formal education, most of us are taught and conditioned to fit well with corporate structure and norms. We grow accustomed to following the hierarchical system. We comply with timelines, deadlines, early morning meetings, overtime shifts, and paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyles. This makes for an ideal candidate to get hired at a top firm and become a slave to the clock. But this way of life may suppress creative voices that have great ideas, however, goes against those norms.

This article does not reflect why you need to quit your corporate job or why it’s probably not the best thing for you. People often know what they’re made for; however, they lack guidance and firm decision-making power to act on their instincts. Tom Wang is a self-made millionaire who quit his job as an account manager at Yellow Pages to build his brand Sdara Skincare and become a full-time entrepreneur. He is now an eight-figure entrepreneur who is not just living the life of his dreams but also helping others realize their dreams by coaching and supporting them to become more self-reliant.

Actually, the way he left his job wasn’t that smooth. He was forced to leave his job by his managers before he was ready to leave. This put him in a difficult position, but he lived by a few principles that allowed him to work through the hard times. They may help you have a smoother transition if you are looking to leave your job.

Make a committed decision

“There was never a day when I thought that this is how I’m going to retire (collecting a paycheck and working 9 to 5). I always knew that I’m going to have my own business; it’s just a matter of time. But I believed in myself,” shares Tom. So you need to first make a committed decision in your mind that this is not what you want for yourself and what you’re striving for. When you have made a firm decision in your head, you should start looking for every possible opportunity that will help you switch jobs or quit them.

This won’t allow you to leave your job immediately, but it will lead you to take action.  You might try 100 different solutions and only find the answer on the 100th try. This is why you must commit to a decision.

Time to compromise

If you are someone who is driven to start a business, but you are stuck with a job, then it could seem almost impossible to juggle your business plans and a regular job. However, with a few sacrifices, you can make that happen with the time you have to yourself after work. You might have to ditch a house party, weekend getaways, or Netflix, but it’s ultimately going to pay off.

“There’s no short-cut to success. If you want to be successful, you have to pay your dues,” explains Tom. To acquire a better lifestyle, you have to make changes in your current one. Some situations might need you to work extra hard or choose work over recreation. While you’re in the process, just know that it will bring you success. You must trust the process.

Initiate the change

“Momentum creates Momentum. One of the hardest parts of having a successful Amazon FBA business is getting started simply,” shares Tom as he speaks about his journey. People are usually so absorbed with planning that they forget to take the first step or risk to make it happen. At the end of the day, to get somewhere, you have to move from where you are.

People who are looking for a different job or getting started on their own business need to know that something better lies ahead. And when that comes, do not try to stop yourself from grabbing the opportunity. Tom Wang has had a monotonous life that he turned around by working hard on what he believed in, and he turned his dreams into reality.
