Why Do People Like Living in Phoenix?

It’s appropriate that the city of Phoenix takes its name from a mythological bird known for blazing fires and immortality. Like its namesake, this is a city that burns bright but never fades away.

Don’t believe me? Here are some of my very favorite things about living in Phoenix…

The Climate

The climate?!? But isn’t Arizona a barren desert wasteland?!?!?

No. No. Nooooo.

The perception of Phoenix and other Arizona cities as empty red wasteland full of tumbleweeds and scorching suns is based on old cowboy movies and cliché stereotypes. While it’s true that Arizona is a lot warmer and sunnier than many other states, the truth is that it’s a dry heat.

That means no oppressive humidity getting in the way of you enjoying the nice, sunny days. It may not be for everyone, but for those of us who can’t stand shoveling driveways and braving snowstorms, the houses for rent in Phoenix are an ideal alternative.

The Economy

It should come as little surprise that Phoenix is a major economic hub for the state of Arizona. It is home to the Center for Entrepreneurial Innovation, after all, which is a business incubator designed to promote job creation.

Maybe that’s why so many big-time tech companies—such as GoDaddy, Yelp, Lyft, and Lifelock—have headquarters and branches here. According to the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, software employment in the region has grown by 20% in the last five years alone.

As a result, Phoenix boasts one of the strongest employment rates in the state, while also having one of the most affordable costs of living. In short, if you’re looking for job opportunities but don’t want to spend a fortune on everyday expenses, Phoenix is a dream come true.

The Food

Strong economy? Great. Beautiful weather? Awesome. But if you ask me, the biggest perk of living in a big city like Phoenix is the FOOD!

Known for having one of the most diverse and delicious dining scenes in Arizona, Phoenix has it all. Do you want Mexican food? With a taco truck on every corner and some of the most authentic Mexican restaurants anywhere, like Rito’s, Los Sombreros, and Los Dos Molinos, you won’t find better Southwest cuisine anywhere north of Tijuana.

Feel like a drive-thru instead? Ditch the Burger King and check out original local places like D’Lish, which serves food that is as healthy as it is scrumptious. Best of all, you can wash it all down at one of the city’s many craft breweries or artisan coffee shops.
