Tariff Actions Don’t Pose Global Recession Threat Says IMF’s Lagarde

The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, on Wednesday said that the IMF currently does not see any threat of global recession which could be brought by the disasterous US-China trade dispute and potential tariff increase on goods and autos from Mexico.

In an interview with Reuters, Lagarde said that these tariff threats were declining business as well as market confidence, and could potentially cause a growth slowdown which is expected to become better in the months to follow.

Lagarde also said that they do not see a recession coming up, when questioned on whether or not Trump’s threat of tariff increase could cause a global economic recession.

Decelerating growth of 3.3% at the end of 2019 is expected to be seen in the US economy.
