As a teenager, Dr. Jennifer Levine has been intrigued by the beauty of faces. She loved sketching as a child, and her favorite was to draw portraits. She shares, “I liked to sketch a face, then change or improve the features.” As she grew older, she became interested in science as well. “I appreciated the precision, as well as the scientific principles of observation, data collection, and experimentation.”
Dr. Jennifer Levine’s love of beauty and aesthetics combined with her passion for science led her to Cornell Medical College and eventually, plastic surgery. On choosing her field of practice, she shares the following motivation, “For me, plastic surgery is the true meeting of art and science. It combines the two things I was very drawn to since I was a child.”
There is another reason why Dr. Jennifer Levine is so passionate about her work as a plastic surgeon. “I come into work every day, and I see the impact I have on other people’s lives. I get to witness the transformation my patients go through, both the physical and emotional changes. The moment they realize that they have become the best version of themselves is always a beautiful moment to be a part of.”
Dr. Jennifer Levine runs a successful, women-run facial plastic surgery practice today and is currently expanding her office, but she faced many challenges when she started. Medical school equipped her with the skills to treat patients, but it did not train her to run a business. “Running a practice is a significant business endeavor, and as a new doctor, I had minimal business skills. Running a business and getting new patients was not something I was taught in medical school, and it seemed opposite to the tenets that I learned to be a ‘good doctor.’ But I persevered and did not stop until I achieved what I wanted.”
A trailblazer in her field, Dr. Jennifer Levine focuses on innovative combination treatments for results that look natural. She trains other doctors on her techniques, and has lectured all over the world – including virtually during the pandemic. She shares, “I have always been inspired by my family, who encourage me to do my best. My mentors and teachers taught me well and believed in my abilities. And I am glad I can pass it forward and guide other doctors as well.”
Dr. Jennifer Levine is proud of her all-women practice. “Even though 90% of plastic surgery patients are women, only 10% of the plastic surgeons are women. And I wanted my practice to be filled with highly-skilled women as an ode to all the strong women who have influenced me throughout my life.”
