DR RICHARD W BOHANNON – Enabling Evolution of Physiotherapy Through Research

Overall quality of life depends on a person’s physical and mental health. An imbalance in either aspect, be it physical or mental, can be detrimental to a person’s overall quality of life. A fuller, more enjoyable life is only possible if a balance exists among all aspects of health. A person that leads a balanced lifestyle has more chances to attain all their aspirations. Thus, it is fair to say that health is the key to wealth.

A person who is suffering from, for example, a deficient level of physical health is bound to have mental health negatively affected as well. This proves that impairment in one aspect of health is likely to influence the other as well. This is precisely why most people who have an attenuated level of physical health are unable to attain their aspirational goals.

This reduced level of physical health can be attributed to accidents, ailments, genetic abnormalities, adverse side-effects of medicine, and even mental disturbances like PTSD. Medications are available that can help patients manage their conditions, albeit for the short term. These substances, delivered through pills, capsules, and injections, are not always able to remedy the issues in question but rather manage the symptoms until a permanent solution can be found.

Unfortunately, patients prefer to have a quick fix for their issues in the modern world. Especially in terms of pain management, the patient has a strong desire to find quick relief. A quick fix for pain no doubt provides a welcome respite from pain, but it is in no way a permanent solution. The best these pain medications can do is keep the pain at bay for a time. And that is where physical therapy can help in finding a permanent solution.

Physical therapy has been around for some time now. Although it has existed in different forms throughout various eras, modern physical therapy is a consolidated and reputable treatment for physical issues. And as knowledge has progressed, so has physical therapy over the years. With advanced technology becoming available, physical therapy has evolved to encompass more issues that it provides treatment for.

The effectiveness of treatment is another area that has improved in physical therapy. Modern physical therapy has taken on a more critical role in treatment than ever before. Today physical therapy has become an essential part of the treatment plan for the recovery of patients’ health. This evolution has all been made possible due to the dedication and efforts of researchers. And one such visionary responsible for the evolution of physical therapy is Dr. Richard Bohannon.
