What Is Project Angel Food and The Everest Foundation’s Telephone Angels Program?
The Project Angel Food Telephone Angel Program is a non-profit organization that brings food and friendship to those in need. A lot of people that are isolated and homebound because of medical conditions don’t have a friend to turn to when they have something they would like to talk about. Whether it’s something small like a new recipe they tried or big news like paying off their mortgage, a lot of people don’t have someone to talk to about these things.
The Everest Foundation’s Telephone Angels Program gives people a friend to chat with. Many volunteers contribute on a weekly basis and provide their clients with check-in calls so they can have a friendly conversation. While this organization was set up to help those receiving the calls, many volunteers have admitted that this program has helped them as well. It’s helping everyone feel a little less lonely.
The Telephone Angel Program was founded in April 2020 by the organizers of the Angel Food Program, an organization that focuses on meal deliveries. It was their goal to make the pandemic a little bit easier for those who needed a friend at this time.
What Do The Telephone Angels Do?
The Telephone Angels simply provide friendship. They are an ear to listen and a voice to speak with when somebody needs a friend. The volunteers will provide check-ins either once or twice each week to keep in touch with the clients. It’s important to remember this is a platonic service; the volunteers do not give out medical or psychological advice.
The reason Dr. Michael Everest and the Everest Foundation were eager to donate to this organization is that it has helped to lift the mood of over 90% of its clients. This donation is really amazing for The Telephone Angels Program because it now provides them with the funds for training for their volunteers, as well as more recruitment resources.
