In recent decades, the emergence of more women leaders and the inclusion of women of color in positions of power affirm that diversity in business is beneficial to not only marginalized communities, but everyone. Studies show that companies with a female founder perform 63% better on average than companies with all-male founders. Despite the progress made, there are still significant strides to be made in gaps in access to funding and representation, and change drivers like entrepreneur Ellen Yin are spearheading efforts to transform the business realm.
The founder of Cubicle to CEO™, Ellen Yin is known for helping entrepreneurs ace the marketing game and highlighting female voices through Cubicle to CEO™, a business podcast that has been downloaded in over 100 countries worldwide. Having left the safety of her corporate career nearly four years ago when she was only 23, she shows that anyone has the ability to take control of their situation and dictate the course of their future.
This well-accomplished female entrepreneur, who has mentored over 9,000 business owners to date and worked with an impressive roster of clients ranging from fast-growth startups to Fortune 500 brands, was drawn to the field of marketing through her affinity for reading and writing. “I’ve always loved storytelling. There is something so powerful in being exposed to other people’s stories because they show us what is possible and inspire us to believe that we are capable, too. I think that’s why I was drawn to marketing,” she recalls. “In its simplest form, marketing is simply about telling the customer a story of where they are and where they want to be.”
Ellen Yin’s interest in people and storytelling influenced her decision to pursue roles in marketing and PR post-graduation. After working in public relations for a fitness startup right out of college, she eventually became a marketing coordinator for a large, local healthcare company. “It was my first and last cubicle job,” Ellen jokes. She soon realized a corporate environment that emphasized seniority and bureaucracy over productivity and innovation was stunting her growth, so she quit without a backup plan after only ten months.
Owning and running a business wasn’t in her plans when she quit, but a month after leaving the corporate world, Ellen Yin managed to secure her first freelance marketing client. From there, her boutique social media marketing agency quickly grew into a multiple six figure business before she pivoted away from done-for-you services near the end of 2019 to focus on scaling her digital media & education platform, Cubicle to CEO™.
At Cubicle to CEO™, Ellen Yin helps coaches and service providers with small audiences make their first $10,000 revenue month. Her signature 12 month mentorship program espouses a “marketing minimalist” approach to gaining visibility and landing dream clients, and teaches strategies that have been proven to scale a service-based business without relying on a website, posting daily, or gaining a massive following.
Since its launch, Cubicle to CEO™ has been credited for helping dozens of entrepreneurs reach the esteemed $10K month milestone. In the years to come, Ellen Yin’s vision is to help 500 women turn this goal into reality. In the process, she aims to inspire other female entrepreneurs and self-starters from marginalized groups that they too, can be pioneers in their field of choice.
