Druva is India’s Next Billion Dollar Start-Up

Druva has joined India’s unicorn club. Unicorn club is an exclusive club of start –ups with more than $1 Billion valuation. According to The Economic Times, Druva has become the latest unicorn in India. It is a Pune based data protection firm which has raised $130 million.

Druva has got various round of investors. It includes Neuberger Berman and Atreides, Viking Global Investors based in US, Tenaya Capital, Nexus Venture partners, and Riverwood Capital. The company has raised close to $328 million till now.

Druva is a data protection firm that offers SaaS for backup, disaster recovery, archival and analytics on the cloud. The company now has a revenue close to $100 Million. It is currently on Amazon Web Services platforms. Its prime function is to provide services and security to AWS’ Indian data centres. It has served 4000 customers till now, and its customers include – Hitachi and Mariott.

The company’s CEO has something to say about its success. In his interview with the Economic Times he said – “We are a small player in a high growth market. Adoption of Cloud has increased in the last two years and being the only native cloud player in this space has helped us. The funds will be used for product innovation and to increase market share”.

Druva is a unicorn now, and has close to 700 people. But it is planning to expand the number of employees and increase it to 1000. The company started up in Pune, India. Eventually, it shifted to California. Now its headquarters are based in California. It still has an R&D Facility in Pune.

Druva is looking to expand itself and reach out to other countries. The CEO Jaspreet Singh said that the company is now present in seven countries and they are looking forward to plant their feet in Australia and the Nordics. He also admitted that their main focus is to pay attention to the current market they are in, and expanding comes second. “We will focus more on going deeper into the current market we are in, over going into too many geographies.”
