The Medical Campaign is an educational platform made for children and young adults between the ages of 4 – 16. This wonderful platform was created by Jad Saber Boustany, a talented and passionate 4th year medical student with a vision to develop student’s scientific backgrounds.
In a quick chat with Jad, we delved into all the details.
Who are you?
I am Jad Boustany, 4th year medical student at Saint Joseph University, and I came up with the idea of The Medical Campaign!
What is The Medical Campaign?
We are a group of Lebanese medical students that give online medical classes to children and young adults ages 4 to 16 in order to help medical students pay their tuition!
Why children?
Well, we believe children are the best audience for medical classes. Given their memory and its capabilities, they will never forget the information they are receiving at that age! Students who attend our classes will be able to first, develop their general knowledge.
Second, have a taste of the medical life, so if they ever pictured themselves as doctors in the future, they’ll get to see if they like it or not. Third, they will help fellow students like us pay our tuition.
And do you currently have any students?
Yes! We actually have more than 300+ students so far from all around the world, to name a few: Lebanon, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, Ghana, Cyprus, Switzerland, France, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Canada, Senegal, Congo, Ivory Coast, Spain, Kuwait, Brazil, Serbia, and the United States.
How did it start?
I used to give coding classes in a private company, up until I asked myself what I am doing in the engineering field while being a medical student. Here came the idea to try giving medical classes to one of my students that lives in Qatar. Long story short: he loved it and told 6 of his friends and they all joined and had the sessions together! And from one day to another, tens of students from around the world (Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, …) contacted me for the classes.
So, we built the team within a week, and we were ready to handle all the students that were sent our way. Now we’re proud to say that our team is made of 40 medical and paramedical students and is still growing!
How do you give your classes?
The platform includes 8 levels; each is spread over 6 sessions and deals with a particular theme. Level 1 covers the human body, level 2 targets emergencies, level 3 describes medicine and technology, level 4 takes care of detailing the brain, level 5 deals with special diseases, level 6 describes sports medicine, level 7 relates to the senses, while the mysterious level 8 closes the sessions.
The session is around 50-60mns long and is given in English, French, Arabic or Spanish!
What do your students’ parents think about your classes?
Some of them are taking the classes with their kids! Since nothing we teach is in the school curriculums, the information is new to both: kids and parents, and the excitement comes from both! We recently did a mom’s medical class that talked about genetics, we had over 40 participants building some kind of community.
How do you help medical students pay their tuition?
With the income we get from all those students, we are able to pay our own medical school tuition while also offering well-paid job opportunities to medical and paramedical students for them to be able to pay their tuition. Lastly, we donate 20% of what’s left to other medical students that we personally know
It was obvious that Jad is truly a passionate individual when it comes to all things medicine and education. Only at 21, Jad created a platform to easily distribute knowledge and help medical students achieve their dreams. To quote Jad “ We do what we love, and we love what we do and it’s everything that matters to us.”
