Millions of tourists flock to Mexico each year to experience its beautiful beaches and vibrant culture. Not only that, but they come to the country for a bit of an adventure as well.

Renowned destinations like Cancun have a number of exciting outdoor attractions for the more adventurous tourists. Snorkeling, hiking, and boating excursions are all super popular. However, one of vacationers’ most beloved activities is swimming with dolphins.

These dolphin lovers will be excited to learn that Mexican dolphinarium company, Dolphin Discovery, has big plans for 2020 and beyond.

According to a recent report, the company plans to invest $10 million to construct a brand new park in Cancun, Mexico. Dolphin Discovery already has a park in Isla Mujeres. However, this new site will be in a more convenient location; just 30 km away near one of the state’s favorite all-inclusive resorts (see: Moon Palace Cancun reviews ).

About Dolphin Discovery

Dolphin Discovery is one of the most well-respected dolphinarium companies due to their commitment to social and environmental responsibility. Spanning across the world, they have parks located in Mexico, the Carribean, Italy, and the United States.

Originally founded in 1994, Dolphin Discovery parks see nearly 2 million visitors each year. Visitors not only get to swim with dolphins, they also get to learn more about marine life and underwater ecosystems. In some locations, guests can also swim with other marine mammals such as sea lions and manatees.

Dolphin Discovery’s Latest $10 million Project in Cancun

Dolphin Discovery’s latest Cancun project is part of the company’s overall $20 million budget dedicated to ‘new projects’ in 2020. Dolphin Discovery CEO, Eduardo Albor Villanueva, estimates that the new park will see around 250,000 visitors annually. As a whole, Dolphin Discovery is on track to see 6% more visitors this year than last year.

Once the park is finished, it will be the largest Dolphin Discovery park in Mexico. Not only that, but it will make Dolphin Discovery the ‘largest dolphin swimming experience company’ in the world.

About the Location: Near Moon Palace in Cancun (Mexico)

Dolphin Discovery already has a Cancun-based location at Isla Mujeres. However, this latest park (news report here) will be further down the coast near the popular resort, Moon Palace in Cancun (Mexico).

At only a 15 minute drive to the Cancun International Airport, this location is more convenient and accessible for tourists. It is in close proximity to Cancun’s thriving downtown area, and it can also be reached by car.

When making plans to visit the park in Cancun, travelers shouldn’t worry about their safety, either. Even though the rest of Mexico is currently under a travel advisory issued by the U.S. government, Cancun is an exception.

On December 26 2019, the U.S. issued a statement confirming that “there are no restrictions on U.S. government employees for travel in Quintana Roo state, which includes tourist areas such as: Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and the Riviera Maya”.

In 2017, Cancun had over 6 million international visitors come to the region as tourists. By 2025, this number is expected to increase to 9.09 million people. This new Dolphin Discovery Park is one of the many attractions in the area that will keep people coming back for years to come.
